Steven Schneider - Home Delivery

221 W Main St, Mesa

Tempe firefighter and life-long artist, Steven Schneider, has provided a step back in time for downtown Mesa.  Everything about this sculpture, Home Delivery, takes us to the past.  A young boy dressed in straight-legged jeans, a white t-shirt, and high-top sneakers, riding an old-style bike, complete with fenders, carries two bags full of physical copies of the Mesa Tribune.  Every detail is in place.  To give the idea of a small town, we even have what appears to be the newspaper boy’s dog running alongside him, indicating that the route will not take them too far away from home.  It is hard to look at this piece and not be nostalgic for the days of old.

Schneider has experience and training in oil painting, ceramics, drawing and wood sculpture.  In 1990, he started working in bronze and found the medium that would lead him to Bronze Concepts, his current company for producing his work.  Schneider often explores the historical genre, taking pains to be accurate in the details of the times.  He also emphasizes the anatomy of his works to give a realism to his subjects.

Home Delivery is a perfect complement to downtown Mesa, a location that celebrates its small town past.  Check out all of the works Mesa has on display with their Downtown Mesa Art Walk map.  Kids will love the youthful newspaper boy, the bike and the dog, as well as many other kid-friendly pieces along the Downtown Mesa Art Walk.  See Greater Phoenix Public Art's Mesa page for more information on many of the pieces you will find around Main St.
